How to Use a BEAM EV Unit

  • Plug In at No Cost with No App

Just plug in! It is free to use this station and there are no necessary apps, websites, or cards needed.

There is no adapter provided. The plug-ins are J1772 Level 2 chargers.

  • Recommended Use

This unit is recommended as a top-off or short-charge station to get you to your next destination.

The size of battery and dependence on weather patterns means it cannot support long-term charging. Please be mindful of other users who want to charge after you.

The battery may be quickly drained at off-peak times (early morning, evening, at night), and it will stop charging your EV once the unit’s battery hits 20%.

  • Troubleshooting

If your EV will not charge there may be a few things you can try:

Unplug the charger and plug it back in.

If possible, plug in with the other charger.

Check to see if the light, located on the center beam that faces the platform, is on. When the battery is too low this light will turn on, meaning charging is not available

How the BEAM Charging Stations Work:

  • BEAM EV ARC units are completely off-grid, with a 40 kWh battery fueled by the overhead solar panels.

  • The BEAM usually charges at roughly 5.7 kW, which is split between the two chargers if they are both in use.

  • The battery means that vehicles can be charged even when it’s not sunny outside, though the availability of power may vary.

  • The light on the center beam that faces the platform (pictured), will turn on when the battery is too low, meaning charging is not available until the battery gets above 50%.
